Mat Chivers
Mat Chivers is a sculptor. His current work suggests forms and processes found in nature without being directly representational. His work ranges in scale from the intimate to the monumental. He uses varying materials depending on the situation of the work. Within installations he has used blood, honey, milk and smoke and for site specific pieces he uses found natural materials. He also carves in stone.
He believes that the presence of sensitively developed and sited art, installed within built environments, can invest a space with new meaning and act as a focus for contemplation, relaxation or as meeting points etc. Past works have included a sculpture commissioned by Bristol City Council for the Wellspring Healthy Living Centre in Barton Hill, Bristol. This included workshops with pupils at local schools.
