Forest of Avon

The Forest of Avon has a co-operative of 40 members all working with wood in different ways, ranging from bespoke furniture to timber framed buildings and include members such as Barrow Woods Forest Farm which is a training and development centre for service users situated in Barrow Woods.

Nick works alongside Joe Cooper at Touchwood Enterprises. Touchwood create wooden interactive play structures for outdoors, using traditional craft techniques and local wood. They also run workshops for schools involving environmental crafts.

Sue Darlison - Bench at Elmham Way
Sue designs and makes fine furniture. The natural beauty of wood is her inspiration and she creates one-off contemporary designs which compliment and harmonize their surroundings. Sue has recently become a listed maker on the Crafts Council National Register and has exhibited at a number of contemporary craft exhibitions in the west country.

Joe Cooper - Benches for Rehabilitation Units, Callington Road Hospital
Joe trained as a cabinet maker, working as an assistant to Alan Peters and Richard La Trobe Batemen before setting up Touchwood Enterprises in 2002. Touchwood creates wooden interactive play structures for outdoors, using traditional craft techniques and local wood. They also run workshops for schools involving environmental crafts.

Nigel Howe

Nigel Howe - Benches for Adult Acute Units, Callington Road Hospital
Nigel became a founder member and director of the Forest of Avon Products Co-op in 1999. He also runs his own company Nigel Howe Associates specializing in environmental education, timber selection and supply, sawmill services as well as the manufacture of bespoke furniture and outdoor public sculptures. He has produced pieces for the Sustrans cycle paths, Blaise Estate and Ashton Court Estate.
