Callington Road: Adult Acute Unit Artworks for Walls - Marion Brandis, Lucy Turner & Kiran Chahal

3 artists have been selected to design and make artworks for the walls of various spaces within the 2 new Adult Acute Units.

Marion Brandis, ceramic artist, is creating artworks for the walls of the dining rooms and corridors, Lucy Turner, printmaker, is making pieces for the multi-functional rooms and Kiran Chahal, mural artist will be working to produce wall pieces for the mixed lounges. All these artworks will introduce colour and interest onto the walls of the Adult Acute Units and enliven the communal spaces.

The artists will be involving service users through participatory workshops to help to create these commissions.

Draft Design for Adult Acute Unit Wallworks - Lucy Turner

Lucy is creating wallworks for the multifunctional rooms of the 2 new adult acute units.

These wallworks will be screen prints and etchings on copper, brass and zinc plate. Lucy has worked with service users to develop ideas for the piece. The images are inspired by the landscape and surroundings at Barrow and will reflect the seasons. Photographs, text and drawings are interspersed with coloured strips to create a linear wall piece.

Draft Design for Adult Acute Unit Wallworks - Marion Brandis

Marion is creating wallworks for the entrance area and dining rooms of the new adult acute units. These wallworks will be made from ceramic tiles and mosaics. Marion has worked with service users to develop ideas for the pieces. The images are based on themes from nature, which are both uplifting and calming.

Draft Design for Adult Acute Unit Wallworks - Kiran Chahal

Kiran has developed her designs through a series of consultation sessions with staff and service users on Dundry and John Carey Wards at Barrow Hospital. The wall works will be made of a series of powder coated aluminium sheets, spray painted with images of flowers. The flowers Kiran has chosen are all herbal remedies for conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress etc.
