Callington Road: Artworks for Main Entrance - Walter Jack
Walter Jack, designer of furniture and architectural landscapes, has been appointed to carry out the commission to create artworks to enhance the entrance to the whole Callington Road site. Walter will be working with the landscape designers, Cooper Partnership, to create an entrance which will welcome service users and visitors to the site. Walter will also be collaborating with 2 local schools, Brislington Enterprise College and West Town Lane Primary School to involve children in the design and creation of aspects of the artworks.
Draft Design for Artworks for Main Entrance
Walter has designed an ingenious 'Blue Sky Fence' for the entrance, to welcome people into the new site. The fence is a low, linear structure which curves into the site. Coloured, stove-enamelled aluminium disks are fixed to it, creating the effect of a pixelated blue sky. The disks are free to move, allowing a constantly changing pattern to be visible as people walk past. There will also be varying levels of transparency. From an oblique angle the fence will seem like a thick hedge and from straight on the fence will appear to be transparent.
