Callington Road: CTLM Vinyl Floor - Chris Tipping
Chris Tipping will design the vinyl flooring which will mark the arrival at CTLM and create a welcoming, calming feel to the reception area. The flooring will help to create a unique identity to the entrance interior to CTLM whilst also enhancing orientation and movement around the reception area, gently leading users to areas of focus (reception desk, waiting and café areas) and adding interest to the overall environment.
Draft Designs for Vinyl Floor
Chris presented his initial ideas for the vinyl floor for CTLM in early May. Using a palette of pale blue and muted colours with autumnal accents, the concept links a series of circles of figurative and abstract motifs, which hint at the shift from Barrow Hospital to the new site at Callington Road. A swirl of oak leaves introduces movement as well as being symbolic of the longstanding sentinel oak trees at Barrow and of their historic use to mark boundaries. At the edge of the floor, images of deer are incorporated, often an elusive presence at Barrow and associated with caring, longevity and stability. The scale of the design is such that people using the reception and café area will not see the design as a whole but catch glimpses of the elements as they move around the space.
