Callington Road: Rehabilitation Units Water Features - Mat Chivers
Sculptor Mat Chivers has created 2 water features for the new rehabilitation units which will enliven the communal garden spaces and create focal points. They are designed to be visually appealing as well as introducing a calming sound to these outdoor areas. Mat has involved service users in participatory workshops to help create these commissions.
Final design for Rehabilitation Units Water Features
Mat has now finalised his design for the water features for the Rehab unit gardens.
2 natural limestone boulders are the basis for the water features. The surface of the stones will be carved with the pattern of the river Avon's course through Bristol to the Severn estuary. These recesses will fill with water which will then flow over the edges of the boulders into a reservoir below, to be recycled by a pump. As part of this commission, Mat will lead a residents' involvement day for East Villa residents - an exploratory outing to the River Avon/Severn to draw and look at water flow and how it creates a landscape. There is also a planned visit to his studio in Devon, to see the work in progress.
