Callington Road: Walnut Tree Seating - Angus Ross
Furniture
designer Angus Ross has
created a unique seat to go around the walnut tree at the centre of the
site.
Before the hospital was built, the Callington Road site was home to a number of protected species and a wide variety of plant life. Most of the existing trees and planting were taken away when the site was cleared ready for building, except for the walnut tree which has now become an important and central feature to the site.
This unique seating highlights the importance of the tree as well as allowing people to enjoy sitting underneath it. People can sit facing into the tree or out into the grounds.
The design is inspired by plant cells and the texture of walnut shells. It is made up of linked sections of English oak with a sculpted, undulating surface.
