Callington Road: Walnut Tree Seating - Angus Ross
Furniture designer Angus Ross is creating a unique seat to encircle a walnut tree at the centre of the Callington Road site. Before development, the Callington Road site housed a range of protected species and wide variety of plant life. The building development necessitated removing most of the existing trees and planting, except for the walnut tree which has now become an important and central feature to the site. This unique seating will highlight the importance of this tree as well as providing seating underneath it.
Draft designs for the Walnut Tree Seating
Angus has designed a seat to encircle the preserved walnut tree, at the middle of the Callington Road site, providing an appealing place to sit and enjoy the surroundings. People can sit facing into the tree or out into the grounds. Inspired by plant cells and the texture of walnut shells, the bench is made up of inter-linked English oak sections which have a sculpted, undulating surface.
