Fromeside - Medium Secure Services Ash Tree Project - The Forest of Avon

cross section of ash tree by Forest of Avon displayed in reception area of Fromeside Clinic photo by Nigel NoyesOne single ash tree has been transformed into bespoke furniture for Fromeside's new reception by The Forest of Avon. The tree was felled from the site in 2004, then cut, milled and seasoned by The Forest of Avon and crafted by member-makers Nick Sneller and Tom Redfern into beautiful benches, a reception desk and planters.

The pieces show off the grain of the wood and make good use of the twisting branches. Nick and Tom also worked with service users on ash tree off-cuts to make ward signs for doors throughout the unit.

A slice of the original tree is on display in the entrance showing rings relating to key years in the history of the Blackberry Hill Hospital site.
