North Somerset: Elmham Way Decorative Glazing - Christian Ryan

Christian Ryan has been appointed to work on the commission to design and fabricate decorative glazing for the Community House at Elmham Way.

The glazing will create a welcoming, attractive and uplifting first impression at the entrance of the house and enhance the interior through pattern, colour and light.

Christian will work to create a focal point to the outside of the house and impact on the interior in a soothing and calming way, harmonizing and personalizing the space and providing a unique identity for the house.

Draft Designs for Elmham Way entrance glazing

Christian presented his initial ideas for the Elmham Way entrance glazing on the 12th of May 2005.

Christian has used subtle colours to create a calming effect, so that the entrance doorway is welcoming rather than overpowering and has the feel of a domestic building. He has created a unique identity for the house and its residents without inviting attention from the general public.

The surrounding white areas will preferably be sandblasted or etched to provide privacy for the residents without excluding the natural light from outside.

The subtle colours will reflect into the interior of the building when the sun shines in.

Christian’s designs have been influenced by Victorian glass entrances and are also slightly art deco in style.

He has created a separate design for each panel of the door to maximize the visual effect.
