North Somerset: Long Fox Older Adult Unit Room for Reflection - Christian Ryan

Christian Ryan has been appointed to work on the commission for a glass piece and interior elements for the multi faith room at the Older Adult Unit at Long Fox.

The Unit's small Multi-faith room will be furnished and decorated to create a contemplative, reflective and meditative space which is inclusive of all religions.

Christian will work with the interior designer to specify colour schemes and other fixtures and fittings to enhance the overall look and feel of the room.

Draft Designs for Multi Faith Room

Christian presented his initial ideas for the multi faith room on the 12th of May 2005.

Through consultation he discovered that modular seating was considered to be a very important feature to provide maximum flexibility in such a small room. In addition he wants to incorporate a secure cupboard for storage and as a multi functional table.

Pale wall colours will be used to create a feeling of space. Dimmable lights were also proposed to generate a relaxed and calm atmosphere.

Inspiration for the glazing design came from natural materials especially the roundness and smoothness of pebbles from the beach.

Christian has chosen to use soft blues and greens because these were the most popular colours during consultation. This palette will help to create a relaxed and calming atmosphere in the space.
