South Gloucestershire: 37 Whittucks Road Rehabilitation Unit
Mosaic water feature artist residency - Barbara Disney

Barbara Disney, has now completed this participatory commission to create a mosaic water feature giving a calming focus to the garden of 37 Whittucks Road. Barbara worked as artist-in-residence leading the Monday Art Workshop during the spring and summer 2006. She led workshops in drawing, designing, mosaic and sculpting to come up with the idea for the shape and surface decoration of the final water feature. Participants went on visits to the Roman Baths to look at mosaics and to an enamelling studio where they learned how to enamel metal. Participants were also involved in the actual construction of the final piece. The water feature is faced with mosaic, decorative tiles and enamelled metal pieces, all of which participants in the Monday Art Group have helped to produce. In addition there are several decorative mosaic stepping stones around the water feature.
