First Artworks unveiled at Fromeside
The
first facility, Fromeside, the Medium Secure Services Unit, completed
in December 05 is now and up and running.
Six unique artworks take pride of place in the new building giving staff, visitors and residents something new, inspiring and exciting to look at every day.
Several artworks, including entrance glazing and specially designed furniture, are in the reception area.
Enclosed courtyards inside the unit are brought to life by outdoor sculptures and a water feature.
The Room for Reflection has an artist-created interior and the hand-carved ward signs are the results of artist-led service user workshops.
A changing display of service user art-work is on view in the main corridor in bespoke 3D display cases.

2 new artists on board for South Glos commissions

Artist's have now been appointed to work on commissions for South Gloucestershire.
The 2 commissions are for the Women's Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
at Blackberry Hill.
Sculptor Faith Bebbington will create a water feature for the enclosed garden and textile Artist Louise Gardiner will create artworks for interior walls.
The commissions will be complete by end of November 2006. Both artists will consult with staff and service users to help inform their designs.
There is also the potential for Service users to become involved through participating in textile workshops as part of the wall works commission.

Exciting designs for Callington Road
In June 2005, staff and service users were presented with artists' initial concepts for 10 of the Callington Road artwork commissions. Since January artists have been consulting with staff and service users at Barrow Hospital to hear people's views about the commissions and start putting together some draft designs.
The designs presented were for the Older Adult Unit Textiles, Older Adult Unit Garden Artworks, Older Adult Unit Reception Glazing, Rehabilitation Units Water Features, Walnut Tree Seating in the grounds, Artworks for Main Entrance, Adult Acute Unit Artworks for Walls, CTLM Café Furniture, CTLM Projection Artwork
June Heap has devised a textile project with service users and staff at the existing older adult day hospital. She will lead a series of 8 participatory workshops where service users will work with a variety of textile techniques including silk-painting and beading.
Marion Brandis has designed several artworks to decorate the functional garden of the older adult unit and create focal points.
Stuart Low's work aims to provide a calm and uplifting atmosphere for those who enter the Older Adult Unit. It also hopes to provoke the senses through hinting at growth and regeneration, movement, wind and rain, petals/pollen on the breeze.
Mat Chivers has now finalized his design for the water features for the Rehab unit gardens. 2 natural limestone boulders are the basis for the water features. The surface of the stones will be carved with the pattern of the river Avon's course through Bristol to the Severn estuary.
Angus Ross has designed a seat to encircle the preserved walnut tree, at the middle of the Callington Road site, providing an appealing place to sit and enjoy the surroundings. People can sit facing into the tree or out into the grounds.
Walter Jack has designed 'Blue Sky Fence' for the entrance, to welcome people into the new site. The fence is a low, linear structure which curves into the site.
Lucy Turner, Marion Brandis and Kiran Chahal are creating wall works for the new adult acute units.
Angus Ross has designed a centrepiece seating concept as well as separate circular tables and chairs for the CTLM café and reception area.
Heidi Morstang is creating a series of moving images which will be projected onto the wall above the reception desk in the CTLM building.

First 4 Artists appointed for Out Of The Woods
4 artists have now been appointed to work on the first phase commissions at Callington Road and North Somerset as part of the Out Of The Woods Project.
At Callington Road, Tom Redfern and Oliver Drake are working on outdoor furniture for the new PICU unit, Nigel Howe is producing benches and tables for the gardens of the new Adult Aucte units and Joe Cooper is working on designs for the new Rehab unit gardens. In North Somerset, Sue Darlison is creating a bench for Elmham Way Community House.

Moving On receives funding for evaluation
NHS Estates has selected Moving On as a national Pathfinder Project and has awarded Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) and the University of the West of England (UWE) £107,709 for an evaluation. This evaluation: 'Building on the Evidence' will explore the impact of the three year Moving On programme of integrated public art commissions within the Trust.
